shirl.sazynski@gmail.com I write, sketch ideas for, and help design video games for EZD Productions.
Albuquerque writer and illustrator with a focus on women's media and diversity in comics, Japanese culture and the arts. My columns "Tales from the Anime Crypt" and "Tales from the Comics Crypt" appear monthly in www.SequentialTart.com, along with reviews, interviews and features. Published articles, photo-journalism, reviews, interviews and creative writing are archived here-- along with news on upcoming publications, awards, new illustrations and gallery showings.
For information on my visual arts and comics, see my portfolio: http://shirlsazynski.daportfolio.com
Both my art and writing have garnered several awards, including an honorable mention in The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 2008 for a dark, fable-like poem and the above quote from a review of Jabborwocky Volume III where my poem appeared. I was an assistant editor at Mythic Delirium from 2003-2005 and during that time occasionally helped work the slush pile for Warren Lapine's (the guy who just bailed out Realms of Fantasy) DNA press consortium (Dreams of Decadence, Absolute Magnitude, Weird Tales).
I studied sequential art (comics) at Savannah College of Art and Design and received a B.A. in literary and performing arts from Hollins University, where I directed both film and theater.
Past publications : Albuquerque the Magazine, Albuquerque Arts, the Santa Fe Reporter, Local IQ, Mas! New Mexico, Animerica Magazine, Pop Art Times, Jabborwocky I, II & III (Prime Books, poetry), Mythic Delirium (poetry), Valencia County News-Bulletin (Staff Writer and Photo-journalist), Roanoke Times, Asheville Citizen-Times and The Sylva Herald.
Illustration credits include: Thera Publishing, National Public Radio, Mythic Delirium, Cargoes and The Roanoke Times.
